Why Use Document Scanning Software

Document scanning software has been seeing some widespread adoption among a lot of businesses. The reason behind the widespread adoption is simply due to the huge amount of advantages that the software gives an organization. There are a lot of good reasons why an organization seriously need to switch from a manual documentation system to using software.

Replacing a tried and tested method for managing documents can seem a bit daunting, especially for old timers who are still wary of new digital technology. However, the benefits of using software for scanning documents are undeniable. Here are some details that can help give an idea of why document scanning software is seeing widespread adoption.

What is document scanning anyway?

Basically, document scanning is a process whereby a hardcopy of a document is converted into a softcopy through scanning. This is achieved through a combination of efficient high-speed document scanners and software that allows document scanning. The process produces an electronic copy of the scanned image that can be stored, managed, edited, and retrieved from a central system.

Who is this software for?

Weighing the advantages and benefits of using a document scanning software is actually quite easy. The benefits and advantages of using the software are directly proportional to the number of documents. The more documents there are the bigger the help the software will be. Both small scale and large scale organizations can benefit from using software for scanning their documents.

Small scale organizations can still use this kind of software despite the lower volume of paper work. However, small scale organizations need less comprehensive systems due to the lower volume of documents to be managed.

Large organizations that have a lot of documents, i.e. in the several thousands, reap the biggest benefits. These organizations no longer have to reserve commercial space, hire lots of employees to manage the system manually, and buy tons of paper and furniture. Large organizations need comprehensive systems, but the good news is that the benefits will certainly outweigh the costs.

What are some of the benefits can an organization expect from the software?

The software has a lot of benefits that it can give an organization. First of all, electronic copies of documents do not take up storage space. Businesses know full well how much money is spent and lost on using commercial space for documents. Electronic copies are stored in a secure server and takes up significantly less space than an equivalent manual storage system.

Organizations can also expect an increase in productivity. Employees spend a significant amount of their time searching for the right paperwork. The amount of time they spend looking for a particular document is better spent doing actual productive work. Document scanning software makes it a whole lot easier to retrieve the right documents. Employees can spend more time working than searching when the right document scanning system is put into place.

Document scanning software has more benefits which are too numerous to mention, but the bottom is this; any business that wants to maintain a competitive edge needs to use this kind of system to have any hope of staying in the lead.

Document Scanning Benefits

Document Scanning Software is being adopted by more and more industries as the advances in information technology that make them more and more beneficial. However, there are those who are still hesitant to invest their time and resources in such a system. It should come as no surprise, after all; most people are reluctant to spend on something that they hardly know anything about.

Using software in document scanning and setting up a proper electronic document management system (EDMS) to handle the scanned documents is indeed expensive. The front end cost of the investment is high but the long term benefits of the document scanning software are very much worth it. Below are a few reasons as to why the software is such a solid investment for any serious business.

Benefits of scanning software: Excellent Security

The problem with document hard copies is that they can easily be stolen, misplaced, lost and so on. Such problems are virtually none existent with documents that are digital soft copies.

Scanned documents are stored in a server as an image which serves as the digital soft copy. A proper EDMS can keep track of any document. The EDMS keeps a record of a scanned document such as when it was made, who accessed the document, when it was accessed, who edited the document and when and so forth. Organizations no longer have to worry about keeping tabs on their important documents as the EDMS will do the entire job for them.

Benefits of scanning software: Makes Regulatory Compliance Simple

Government regulatory guidelines can be a large problem for organizations that are unable to follow them. More often than not, an organization's inability to follow regulations is a result of incompetent document tracking and retrieval. This results in penalties and fines that can cost an organization a lot of money.

Most governments today actually push organizations to use document scanning software. This is because scanned documents do not get lost. Scanned documents cannot be edited and the EDMS also offers an extra amount of service and protection that traditional manual document management systems could not provide.

Benefits of scanning software: Greatly Reduces Environmental Impact

Software used in scanning documents is very useful and powerful by itself. However, a collaborative tool such as e-mail makes them even more effective. Just imagine how much paper an organization can save by simply scanning a document and sending it through e-mail throughout an entire organization. Think about doing this kind of activity forever.

Scanning documents is one excellent way for an organization to show its concern and initiative to take care of the environment. After all, maintaining a green image is very important to maintaining a good image.

Benefits of scanning software: Easy backups

It's hard enough to store and keep track of documents manually, let alone make backups. Scanning documents allows backup copies of documents to be stored on several networks and systems. In the event of a disaster, an organization can simply retrieved a backup copy that was made with the document scanning software.

Easy Steps to Document Scanning

Have you ever wondered how you would have fared as a student or as an employee back when technology wasn't at its finest yet? Do you imagine yourself working on your thesis with only books to use and no computer or typewriter in sight? Can you see yourself preparing for an office presentation where you had to make sure every member of the higher management had a copy of your presentation, but you didn't have access to a photocopier yet? The thought probably scares you. That is because now that technology has reached its all time high, people have learned so much to depend on these innovations for comfort. And it's not bad, really. In the first place, these inventions were created to make things easier for people. This is a form of process improvement.

Nowadays, it seems as if whatever advancements people have come up with is still continuously being upgraded. Perfection is something that humans really try so hard to achieve. As far as documents processing goes, you probably would agree that it may not be perfect, but to a degree the technology people have nowadays is close to that route. Document scanning is one of those technologies that have become so popular that you find people everywhere making use of it. It can be for reproducing documents, obtaining a soft copy of images or text and many more.

The thing with document scanning is that although it is very popular, not all people know the basics of doing it. Especially for older people, a simple scanning job may prove to be a challenge to them. It is quite easy for younger generations to understand how it works. But for those who are not as exposed, even the manual is not enough to successfully perform the job.

Document scanning can be done in few easy steps. It is easy but it may confuse some people. The following steps pretty much sums up how to scan a document;

1. Turn the computer on- A scanner needs a computer to work. It usually comes with a disk that will prompt you to install software that will make it work. Installing is easy. Pop in the disk and you will just have to read through instructions in the screen.

2. Turn the scanner on- Turn on the scanner. Make sure that all cables are connected properly before you turn it on. Check the manual so you would know which cable to connect to which port. The computer often prompts that it has detected the scanner.

3. Prepare the material to be scanned- Have your pictures or documents ready for scanning. Wipe your documents with cloth to remove fingerprints or dirt. You'll be surprised how much detail are picked up by scanners so to avoid repeats, make sure everything is clean and ready.

4. Scan and save- Scan and save wherever you want to keep your softcopy.

Document scanning is a pretty easy feat. It is a great piece of technology that makes a lot of task easier to do and faster too.

A Guide to Document Scanning Software By Pete Morgan

Document scanning software is one of the best solutions that an organization can have for managing their documents. More and more organizations are replacing their outdated manual systems of document management in favor of digital solutions. The benefits that these systems have are numerous and can go a long way in helping an organization improve its productivity and cutback on its operational costs.

There are those who are still hesitant to make the switch from manual to a digital document management system. It's quite understandable. After all, with the way technology rapidly advances today, most people are hesitant to try anything new in fear of how it might perform. This guide is meant to help arm people with the right information so they can make an educated decision on whether or not their business needs to use document scanning software.

What is this software?

To put it simply, document scanning software is basically a program that will capture images of a scanned document. The scanned document is then stored digitally for future use and retrieval. The main advantage of this kind of system is that it takes up significantly less space than document hardcopies.

However, the software used in document scanning is often not enough, a proper document management system is also necessary.

What is an electronic document management system?

An electronic document management system (EDMS) is basically a computer system that can be used for tracking and storing images or electronic copies of documents. This system basically supplements the functions of the software used in document scanning.

The software makes it possible to scan documents while the system is responsible for managing and storing the scanned documents. Companies that offer software for document scanning often have an electronic document management system that comes along with it.

How can electronic copies or images of documents be even of any use?

Most people are not yet aware of this, but governments all over the world are starting to treat electronic documents or images of hard copies as legal. Organizations no longer need to concern themselves with the possibility of losing any document for regulatory compliance. It's a lot easier to avoid penalties as the documents are electronically stored and very easy to retrieve.

Who will benefit most from using this software?

Document scanning software is very suitable for any organization that deals with a lot of paper work. The size of the organization doesn't really matter. No matter how big or small, an organization that deals with a lot of paper work will greatly benefit from the software.

For one thing, using the software combined with an EDMS means that the organization will no longer have to worry about storage space. Storage space is one of the biggest problems in manual systems of managing documents. Software and EDMS circumvent this problem by storing documents digitally. This means that the organization can free up more space for actual work as opposed to just using it for storage.

Document scanning software is one those digital essentials that any organization will be glad to have.

Great Tips for Document Scanning

Document scanning is the process by which ordinary documents printed in paper is converted into digital files. As you would know, paper printed files are not as easy to manage compared to digital ones. For one, storage can become a problem when compiling large volumes of paper. Going paperless is not only practical; it also is good for nature. Another issue with paper documents is the required manpower to secure them. Highly confidential files can not be entirely protected by people alone. However, if the document becomes digital, it can easily be secured by a mere password, known to only the person who is granted access to it.

The usual document scanning process simply converts a paper document into an image. A single scanning can allow you to convert the file into any form, depending on how you intend to use it. More advanced printers can easily convert a page full of text into a text file that is completely editable. Having a copy of the document in this form gives you access to view, alter and convert the contents. You can use it for different applications based on the function that you require.

Many people are witness to the many benefits of document scanning and having digital copies of important documents. From a financial point of view it lowers the cost of printing or reproducing. Mailing can now be done through the internet so there is no need for snail mail. The storage of printed documents also requires physical containers. Scanning eliminates the need for space, filing cabinets and locks for protection. Another great thing is that there is no need to literally dig through countless paper sheets in finding specific information. Scanning can allow you or your office to make a database that will only require a few clicks or keyboard taps to access the necessary file. Appending existing files will also be easier. You can just attach new files to old ones and save it.

Years of document scanning has led to a lot of tips being compiled for a more efficient and error free scanning. For instance, making sure that the document you are scanning is aligned to the edges of the scanner guarantees that you need not do a repeat. Slight folds can cause blurs in the copy. If you only need the text you can scan using black and white only to make the scanner process less but faster. Lower the resolution of scanned images if you only plan in storing but not printing it. Increase the resolution if the purpose is to have it printed and blown up to big sizes. The logic is, the higher the resolution the slower it works. But if you need to send the digital file via email, opt for a higher resolution so that the person on the receiving end can print a crisp and clear image if needed.

These tips are simple yet they can greatly influence the quality of your scan jobs. And if you take care of your scanner, you can make sure that you can enjoy its benefits for more years to come.

How Can You Improve Business Workflow

For any service management business the ability to improve processes and workflows to achieve higher levels of productivity and service is critical to success.

Many businesses are looking across technology and IT advancements to find solutions. But finding the right solution can be difficult. So here are a few pointers to help steer you through the maze of technology and IT workflow systems on the market, highlighting some of the key features to look for and the benefits these will deliver.

Cloud technology

Cloud field service management software uses the latest in leading-edge technology to maximise service management workforces and reduce not only capital costs but also operational costs. Because the very nature of the software means it can be accesses anytime, anywhere from any device, it is able to deliver seamless workflows between back office teams and mobile devices used in the field.

Cloud software is considered by many to be the "way forward" for two clear reasons:

Firstly, it uses cloud-based technology. And cloud computing means that the software and hardware is hosted by the provider and this is leased to businesses. This type of arrangement eliminates capital expenditure and means that the provider bears the responsibility for updating and improving software as part of the subscription a business would pay to use it.

Secondly, the sheer power and scale of the latest field service management software is really taking the service management industry by storm. Capable of maximising productivity and pushing new limits for the way technology can help businesses schedule and organise works, the software is not only the way forward but the future.

So cloud field service software is pushing the capabilities of service management and would boost service delivery and productivity in any business.

Powerful scheduling tools

Powerful scheduling tools are now driving appointment booking and scheduling for service management business. Capable of intelligently optimising field engineer appointments, schedulers reduce drive time (so saving fuel costs) and ensure the right person is booked for the right job at the right time.

Schedulers also integrate with inbuilt workflows within the latest field service management software. What this means is that as appointments are booked, seamless processes move the appointment from the call centre to the relevant engineer's mobile device. At this point the engineer is able to see the appointment details and plan ahead for extra stock and materials.

Scheduling tools in particular can boost productivity and businesses using intelligently scheduling have reported up to 25% more productivity from teams, which is a huge improvement.

How Can Workflow Software Support an In-House Team

Workflow software can provide a critical business tool for in-house teams providing repairs and maintenance services.

Within the social housing sector, for example, it has long been an assumption that the in-house "DLO" (Direct Labour Organisation) would be a thing of the past. But as social housing providers are increasingly looking for new ways to improve services, retain customer loyalty, reduce operating costs and mitigate risk, there seems to be a place for a new kind of DLO: A DLO for the 21st Century.

But such a DLO will only prove a success if it uses leading-edge technology such as the latest in field service management software to regain control of works, increase productivity and customer satisfaction, and reduce operating costs. Such software comes with inbuilt workflows designed to maximise the productivity of teams.

By using software a business will in a strong position to deliver its repairs, maintenance and investment works in-house. So it is highly recommended to seize upon advances in technology to support service management.

Intelligent scheduling

For example, if we elaborate on the benefits of intelligent scheduling which software with inbuilt workflows can provide the scheduling tools are capable of automatically rearranging appointments according to the best field worker, their location and distance from the job.

The workflow then dictates that this is communicated to the appropriate field operative's mobile device, which can make huge savings in terms of time and fuel costs. Businesses have reported up to a 30 per cent saving on petrol when using intelligent scheduling and supporting workflows.

Improved diagnosis of all repairs

Effective workflows related to repairs will help to identify the correct problem at the outset, by ensuring the correct job codes is selected when making a booking. This means that jobs will not be allocated incorrectly, as the job code identifies which skills are required for each job, and a matrix of each of field worker's skills helps to allocate jobs to the most appropriate worker.

And when the most appropriate worker has been selected, the workflow will highlight materials and stocks which are required on their mobile device. This means that from the moment a job is booked with the call centre to a field worker understanding what is required of them workflows ensure jobs are resolved on the first visit.

A mobile device can also alert supervisors, schedulers and operatives to any special parts or materials that need to be ordered prior to a job. It is also used for customers to sign off the completion of any works, which businesses have found gives a tangible and clear message to customers about the company's commitment to getting jobs fixed first time.

How Traditional Maintenance Management Is Advancing

Maintenance management can often be perceived as a fairly traditional, pragmatic sector, focused on "getting the job done" in ways which haven't changed in decades. How wrong this image is becoming. Simply because behind the physical hard work and brawn is more and more often an advanced IT system which has been designed to drive works, processes and performance.

Increasingly maintenance businesses are using the latest technology and IT systems to manage what they do, how they achieve their goals and how they maximise the productivity of their people.

At the centre of technological and IT advances is "the cloud" and this is providing a real boost for maintenance business.

Cloud field service management refers to new cloud-based technology used to host and deliver maintenance management systems. What this means: Because of new technologies it is now possible to host data and systems "in the cloud". By this we actually mean to host in a completely robust and secure data centre, which are often described as bullet proof environments.

So the term "cloud" can be misleading. And it has also had a bad press at times, which obviously hasn't helped its cause. But decent data centres are nowhere near the woolly and flimsy cloud you might picture when someone uses the term - they are totally resilient, bullet-proof centres as already mentioned.

In terms of cloud field service management - this means that the data and system used for managing maintenance teams whilst they are working on-sites, whether they are a building maintenance or facilities management contractor, for example, would be hosted in such as data centre. The data and system is therefore available anytime, anywhere (as long as you have an internet connection via a laptop or smartphone), so supporting field workers 24/7.

In real terms this means that maintenance teams can access work and appointment details 24/7, particularly when they are "on the move" and without the need to waste time by returning to the office to collect paperwork.

Mobile capabilities also mean that appointments can be scheduled to their mobile device direct, so you ensure you get the most out of each worker every day, so maximising productivity. Mobile apps often come with the software and make the most of mobile devices by turning them into a works management system in the palm and ensuring your people are kept connected to the business and fully informed about what's expected of them.

Who Develops Field Workforce Management Software?

With many service management companies opting to purchase and implement software which will help to maximise mobile workforce productivity, it is a sensible question to ask: Who are the people behind the software and who develops it?

Field service management software is developed and provided by specialist developers and software technology companies. Many of these businesses are start ups and enterprises comprised of highly talented and experienced software developers, who have a real passion for what they do.

The resulting software is of an outstanding standard, as much of the latest field service management software is pushing the boundaries of cutting-edge technology and really pushing the boundaries of system capabilities. Software is also breaking new ground for the service management companies that use such technology, as the software is supporting them to become more efficient and productive in their work.

The software is also raising the bar in terms of outstanding customer service. By providing businesses with the tools to achieve better customer service, field service management software also supports businesses to increase customer satisfaction and develop greater brand loyalty.

How is the software developed?

Software developers will often use a fixed development roadmap approach but with the inbuilt agility to meet the demands of customers should they request new developments to the software. In doing so, agile software development working practices are vital to developer's success and ultimately the benefit of all customers.

For example, developers find that it is important to naturally build in quality as part of development phases by using test-driven development and automated testing. This has a number of clear benefits - not only does this approach deliver a quality product but it speeds the development process and enables a quicker route to market which ultimately customers appreciate as they see the benefits within a shorter than expected timeframe.

How is software delivered?

The very latest field service software is delivered using what's called a "software as a service" model. In real terms this means that the software used cloud technology and hosted in a highly resilient data centre, rather than being a product you would install on your premises which is a more traditional approach.

The benefits of software as a service (or SaaS) is that there is no capital outlay required and you only pay for the amount of service you require and the level of server capacity within the data centre that you need. As your business grows you are able to expand the service and capacity you require to match business growth.

Securing FTP with z/OS Security Profiles

Maintaining control over who accesses the data on mainframe systems is crucial. IBM's RACF and CA's ACF2 and Top Secret can keep a system fairly secure. But by themselves they are not adequate to protect against dangerous FTP functions. As mainframe handles critical business data and applications, it is very important to have security measures and controls in place. Especially, with z/OS FTP, there are high probabilities of data snooping, which can be avoided using suitable security software.

FTP with traditional RACF dataset protection
Traditional RACF rules regarding dataset security may restrict users to read-only access. But with FTP, if users can read a file, they can offload that file for their personal use. They can copy your data to a flash drive, or email it anywhere in the world. Thus, restrictions on dataset access fall short of what is needed when standard FTP is available on the mainframe.

Snooping issue with FTP session
Traditionally, mainframe users are a small number of trusted people whose activities are limited by the applications they use. But with standard FTP, almost anyone with a user ID can get on the mainframe and snoop around. Any hacker who manages to get a user ID can use a '/u' command, for example, to list the contents of that user's workspaces, and maybe retrieve files.

The SITE command and the issues
z/OS FTP SITE commands are not standardized; they vary from server to server. They are useful for handling things like file permissions and group memberships. However, they can also allow dangerous operations over the network. For example, with the FILETYPE=JES command, an FTP client can submit jobs to, and pull reports from, the JES queue. SITE can also be used to change permission bits for a file, or to list detailed information about the storage devices on the network.

Treating FTP functions as protectable resources
Thus, basic protection mechanisms are not enough to secure z/OS FTP and make it a true enterprise-class protocol. You can solve that problem, however, by implementing software that wraps around FTP resources and protects them with RACF security profiles. It will create a link between z/OS FTP servers and z/OS security that will restrict the usage of unwanted FTP commands.

By using security software for z/OS FTP, the mainframe administrator can selectively restrict access to FTP functions and commands. He can allow FTP users to transfer the files they need, while preventing them from using FTP to snoop around. Thus you can make RACF into a complete security solution for protecting your mainframe system from malicious behavior through FTP.

Server Monitoring System

There are two main reasons for introducing the server monitoring process into practice. The first one is to minimize the amount of servers' and other network devices' downtimes, which directly affects on company's financial state. The second one is to increase the quality of service that company provides to its customers.

A monitoring program significantly increases the datacenter's productivity. The constant monitoring of important network devices' parameters guarantees that the failure will be detected and repaired much quicker, even before it is noticed by the customers or any user from the outside. Often, the polling results database (that has been collected during the exact amount of time by the program) allows the system administrator to analyze and detect the potential problems and bottlenecks that might take place in the network devices in the future, before they eventually stop operating. Furthermore, some problems could be removed by the server monitoring system automatically by restarting particular services or hosts without an IT manager's involvement. But if the failure is too serious and needs to be repaired by the technical staff, the gathered data makes their work much easier and decrease the amount of time that is required for the shutdown fix. In any case, even minor failure or interruption in the service delivery to the customers can lead to the greatest financial losses and users' complains. That is why, in spite of the fact that the network monitoring software installing can be rather time consuming, such the program is necessary for any datacenter.

Of course, all customers want to receive high-quality and regular service, and they do not care about technical problems that the host provider can have. The server monitoring program helps to minimize the amount of failures and downtimes, and thus the company saves its customers' incomes. The more stable and better the service is, the lower probability of losing clients is. In addition, with the server monitoring software the system administrators do not need to repair all the failures in a hurry anymore. Of course, the fast response to particular events is still very important, but the monitoring system decreases greatly the amount of downtimes, and improves conditions of work for IT staff. Free time, that administrator gets, can be spent on increasing the network's productivity, enhancing the company's information security, implementation of new technologies, etc.

The response time charts displayed by the monitoring program for services and servers being monitored can help to determine the criteria of optimal computational power consumption. At the moment, when the loading level is minimal, some servers might be even switched off or turned into the idle mode - that allows the head manager to reduce the company's expenses. And vice versa: if the CPU usage is rising, it will be easy to plan upgrades and increase the datacenter's capacity.

Hence, a server monitoring program is an exceedingly convenient system, which allows the system administrator and manager to improve the customer services, decrease the income losses, and widen the list of company's clients.

How Does E-Detailing Impact the Pharmaceutical Industry?

In the health care and pharmaceuticals industry the term e-detailing simply refers to the use of any internet based technology in dealing with sales. As a closed loop marketing strategy most pharmaceutical companies use it as a process of communicating information about different services and products to the healthcare professionals and practicing physicians.

The necessity

In no possible sense the system can be considered as an alternative to the personal visits provided by the medical representatives but it can really be a rather valuable addition to the already existing channels of receiving information regarding different types of pharmaceutical services and products.

The most important advantages of e-detailing in pharmaceutical and closed loop marketing strategies for any health care professional may be considered as follows

It is undoubtedly one of the most convenient ways of availing product and service information as per his own requirements and also at his convenient time anywhere in the world provided that he can access the internet.

It also provides the professional with a chance to learn about products and services of their interest at a greater depth as a lot of resources along with treatment guidelines and clinical papers are also available for a study.

With e-detailing it is really possible to cut down on the browsing time by a considerable extent as almost all information are available from a single site and one is only required to remember a single log-in id and password to get access to all the information.

By getting more feed backs and regular interaction with the pharmaceutical companies the level of the service provided can be improved by a considerable extent.

One can always request the companies for product samples to actually check out their efficiency and prescribe them to the patients.

The network

The network of the system can actually bring in a number of positive effects to the global pharmaceutical industry. The most important advantage of getting associated with an e-detailing network is its potentiality to reduce marketing and promotional costs by a considerable degree along with an increased availability of the products for the medical practitioners. Because of their ability to provide detail information about different pharmaceutical products to physicians that they can access at their own convenient time is making them increasingly popular.

But it will be a gross mistake to assume that application is beneficial for the medical practitioners only. By reducing the promotional cost it also helps to reduce the actual costs of the product too. The purchasers, the medical practitioners as well as the pharmaceutical companies all can profit from this latest development in the field of information technology. When e-detailing was first introduced in the year 1996 its use was limited within the United States of America only but at present more and more countries are taking advantage of this revolutionary technology that has almost completely changed the face of the global pharmaceutical industry and not utilizing the advantages of it can easily be considered as a mistake.

Sales Enablement for Enhanced Commercial Prospect

The core functionality of any sales process is to maximize the sales ability of an organization by communicating its commercial values in an improved, concise, and compelling way. It is actually a collection and proven effective practices which are provided to a marketing team to make them communicate more effectively and efficiently with the customers and make your organization perform better than your competitors. With proper planning, it is also possible to achieve a better communication between the marketing and sales division of any commercial enterprise for a better business prospect.

Traditional and contemporary

Over the past few years all traditional software that were available for the customers are comprehensively overtaken by online services or ''Software as a Service' or Saas and they are obviously the preferred choice for most commercial and corporate houses. Moreover, 'Hosted Sales Enablement software' and 'On Demand Sales enablement software' are now also available and more and more companies are turning to different types of services to keep pace with the extreme competition that the global market is facing at present.

In order to accelerate their sales for generating more revenue during a turbulent financial period each and every company is looking to cash on every opportunity that may arise from every interaction with the customers. Achieving that kind of a result with software investment van be pretty expensive, but with an online Sales enablement one can lower down the cost quite dramatically and still achieve more or less the same results. Any web based solution provider will offer you maximum worth for your value in minimum time and as there is also no need of big time up front capital investment they can also be afforded by most.

Categories

There are the most common types of Saas or other solutions

Web based sales enablement software that is often conducted with a traditional type software within a limited duration of time

Hosted one with more customization options and better user interfaces

On demand solution with a multi-tenant approach that can scale the implementation within a very short duration of time and also without being much expensive

More and more modern market conscious companies and commercial houses are now opting for latest and innovative apps that can provide almost instant results. The latest versions of online technologies those are currently available have made the regular system up gradation extremely easy and convenient. In more than one sense of the word web based sales enablement is always expected to perform much better than their traditional counterparts that were not only more expensive, but at the same time one is also required to invest in IT infrastructure along with servers and networks to run the whole system. Contrary to this there is no need of purchasing any new software or hardware is not necessary for the web based sales collaboration software and certainly there can be nothing better than that.

Bring Employee Engagement Back With HR Software

Back in the late 90s, I was living in New York and emails just started becoming popular with consumers. I hung out with a lot of folks who thought cell phones would give us brain cancer and that emails were just a fad. They also feared that there's too much technology and people would be losing all their privacy online. This was the beginning of the dot com boom. People feared the digital world because everything is recorded in the world's servers. Some chose to completely go off the grid, and some totally embraced technology -- pushing forward the concept of harnessing its power for the betterment of humanity.

Fast forward to the 21st century, when social networks like Friendster, and MySpace were getting popular. I was working for one of the first Indian dot coms that used social media effectively for marketing. At that time a lot of business leaders were saying that social media was just for teens and it won't affect the way we do business. B2B social media marketing was unheard of. By the end of 2010, marketing experts were predicting ways to measure the ROI on social media. It wasn't a question of "should we use social media for B2B any more", it was a question of "how can we most effectively use social media in business?"

Lately, I've been conversing with a lot of HR pros and managers, talking about HR automation, and how HR is perceived as just a processing department. A lot of them agreed that HR pros are too focused on shuffling paper and handling day-to-day process requests that they forget to look at the big picture. Some folks had told me that HR pros are not always for HR automation that they fear technology because they think that it's going to replace their jobs.

Another thing is people fear change. As a change agent myself, I feel bad walking into an office or taking over a function even when it's assigned to me by my superiors because I know that I'm going to cause discomfort. If a process can be done more efficiently, I do change things, cutting out whole teams and departments as necessary. It's the sacrifice you need to make to be more efficient, to produce a better product in a faster time frame. I've lost friends in the process, too.

Change brings uncertainty. Humans and most animals do not like change; it pushes them out of their comfort zone. This is why people had resisted technology or things that they do not understand. Naturally, all of us fear that we'd lose our jobs because we're going to be replaced by robots or software. However, there are a lot of things that software can still not do i.e. arrive at proper conclusions after analyzing numbers. No HR software has artificial intelligence embedded in it. They can help you decide your successors, plan your company's succession and help you arrive at conclusions or make decisions.

HR software or HR automation makes life a lot easier and convenient to employees, managers, and HR professionals. Case in point, check out our yesterday's release. If you look at it, there are a lot of things that we're automating and we will continue to automate as much as possible. When a client signs up with us, we configure their HR workflows, so that HR spends the least amount of time handling process requests.

Now it's up to you to decide what you'd do with the time that you just saved. What will you do when you don't have to check and double check attendance figures? Or look around for spreadsheets because there's so many to keep a track of? HR software gives you the time to get up from that chair and check in with your team, your employees, engage with them at a personal level -- even if it's just to go and congratulate them or just to say "hi". Rediscover the people again and have meaningful engagements.

How to Use Silverlight in ASP.NET

The very purpose of Microsoft Silverlight is to allow .NET developers better ammunition for creating rich and interactive web content. Designed ground-up for .NET, it natively supports languages like C# allowing developers to use same language (VB, C#, etc.) and abstractions (LINQ, controls, streams, collections, generic, etc.) to frame client and server side codes. The best part is that one does not need to have the entire .NET Framework installed in order to leverage the technology. The version 4.0 has a cross-platform version included, which means developers can access it on the browser without having anything extra installed on the client. It includes the same CLR engine (GC, Type System, JIT Engine, etc.) that comes with the full .NET Framework, along with a skinned down component of the namespace libraries. The four main components are -one that handles the inputs from devices, the core that manages rendering of images, vector graphics, textual content, animations, etc., the media handler that manages playback of MP3, WMA, and WMV streams, and the one that manages the user interface layout written in XAML.

The technology gels and integrates extremely well with existing web applications, including those on ASP.NET AJAX. In fact they are designed to be complementary in nature and application, while ASP.NET AJAX can additionally be employed for better control of visualizations, e.g. application mapping or video playback with rich presentation. There are typically four or so different scenarios, based on common development approaches, when one has to consider on whether to use either of the technologies or both in tandem.

Pure Silverlight Applications - This circumstance calls for total removal of ASP.NET and generally works best in case of fresh development, as there would hardly be any integration problem. Communication with the server is established through web services (e.g. WCF). Partial or complete hosting or porting of such solutions on different platforms is easy and cumbersome free due to the distinct separation of the server and the client in such applications.

Primarily ASP.NET development with islands of Silverlight components - This works fine when the respective content have little to do with each other in the application itself. A classic example could be a deploying a media player component, developed with the rich client-side technology, in a blog post driven by an ASP.NET engine. This approach is quite common which actually manages to encompass and engage a larger audience - different users with different local technology installs can enjoy different facilities in the blog, without getting completely blacked out due to absence of a specific technology on the local machine.

Pure ASP.NET AJAX application - ASP.NET AJAX is designed to deliver in collaboration with ASP.NET and essentially is an extension of the same. Although AJAX might not match up to Silverlight's rich and advanced user experiences, it still suffices quite a few scenarios, especially when the skills-sets available in-house are pre-dominantly those of ASP.NET. One of the ways to do it would be to blend the client and server codes by using UpdatePanel, Ajax Control toolkit, etc. This is especially easier to implement where JavaScript knowledge is limited. The other one is a pure AJAX approach, wherein HTML and JavaScript is put to use instead of server controls to call web services to communicate with the server. This is a better option when one has to later port AJAX applications onto other technology platforms. The programming model in this case is quite similar to that of Silverlight; especially since one only need to re-work on the client side code, keeping the web services intact.

Combining with ASP.NET - In some occasions one may wish to port an existing ASP.NET application to Silverlight, but might not be interested in re-writing the entire code. A quite challenging approach since it asks for judicious blending of client and server side technologies and the decision to adopt this approach should be substantiated by the following queries and considerations:

Is it essentially a high consumer engaging application and whether it needs a rich interactive user experience, which AJAX might not be able to sufficiently handle?

If it is indeed designed to be a consumer oriented application, could it not be achieved by simply adding Silverlight islands to the existing ASP.NET code base, instead of considering mixing of client and server side content?

The benefits of leveraging existing Silverlight knowledge, components and applications and integrating them with SharePoint 2010 are numerous. Since the codes run on the client, one can utilise threading and asynchronous calls to offer responsive user interfaces and to take advantage of modern multi-core microprocessors in client computers offering great response times. Rich controls, animations, and exhilarating multimedia effects are achieved without overloading the server. It is this Silverlight development capability of isolating processing on the client that creates a self-contained application out of the Portal.

Sales Collaboration - Your Latest Tool for Business Success

In business and commercial sense the term sales collaboration is actually an amalgamation of enthusiasm and passion with strategic motivational tools and training to create better sales professionals with a greater chance to succeed in the industry. The primary focus of any sales collaboration program is to provide the marketing team with more belief in themselves that can be transferred to the customers in order to create a better impression about the related products and the services. This of course leads to a greater number of sales which is the ultimate aim of any commercial enterprise and proper sales collaboration can easily be the secret of achieving this desired goals.

Selling almost any kind of product requires an ability to earn commitment from both the customers and the manufacturing or production companies and that positive commitment is the only thing that is required by any successful sales professional. In other terms sales collaboration is the process of communication that makes a customer to commit to buy a certain product on a regular basis and lead the product to a higher level of sale.

Secrets of Successful Collaboration

Bringing the marketing and the sales team of a company can be considered as an extremely difficult proposition and due to the communication gap that often exists between these two vital wings it is really possible for a company to miss out a number of potentially profitable opportunities. Building a smoothly functioning bridge between these two wings can be extremely difficult at times but a properly arranged and manipulated sales collaboration can really solve this problem quite successfully and truly speaking there are a number of successful companies that has successfully bridged the communication gap between the sales and the marketing wings and as a natural result their product sale has improved by a considerable extent within a very limited period of time.

It is quite unfortunate that there are still a number of companies that gives marketing a second fiddle to sales while depending upon modern market condition marketing and sales deserves equal amount of priority and until and unless they are conjugated to work in unison achieving desired results can hardly be possible.

The Key Segments

In order to develop a perfect sales collaboration strategy it is really important to identify the key segments of the whole process that can result in the best of the results. Different segments can offer different level of opportunities for different types of businesses and identifying the one that is suitable for a particular type of business can very well be the deciding factor behind a successful business. Brand promotion and lead generation are not the only focal points of any modern marketing system as they are getting increasingly involved in the sales process and are now considered as an almost integral part of the overall cycle.

There is always some considerable advantage of bringing marketing and sales team together to work in tandem and there is every possibility that they can come up with some more innovative and effective approach to attract more clients.

Using the Grep Command

The grep command is a simple Linux command line utility used for locating strings of text in files. Here we're going to walk through a brief tutorial on using the grep command.

Grepping a single file

We're going to assume that we have a single file labeled "declaration" that contains part of the Declaration of Independence. Let's say we're looking with anything in the file "Declaration" with the word "lives" in it. The syntax for the command would be as follows.

grep "lives" declaration

Essentially what this command does is says "look for the word 'lives' in the file 'declaration'". Interestingly enough, the grep command will actually display the entire line the word was found in, so running this command gives us the following:

"He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people."

Grepping a directory

OK, so let's say that you know some of the text in a file but you're not sure exactly where that file is. Finding that file is one of the most basic applications of the grep command. To grep for a string of text in a directory, use the following:

grep "lives"./*

The * acts as a wildcard symbol in most Linux and Unix operating systems and basically just tells the grep command to search "All". In addition to just finding the text, the grep command, in this instance, will also show you the file it found your string of text in. The output of the command above is as follows:

"./declaration:He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people."

Grepping Recursively

In certain cases we may not have the luxury of knowing which directory a file is found in. In this case, the ability to grep recursively becomes useful. Grepping recursively means telling the server to search this directory, and every directory below it, for the string of text you're looking for. This can be accomplished by adding the -r switch, as seen below:

grep -r "lives"./*

Piping the grep command

So we've looked at how to search for a single word or string of text but how about if we want to search for multiple strings of text or send the contents of the grep command to a different utility for further processing. This is where pipes come in.

A pipe in Linux (found right above the backslash on your keyboard) is a way of telling the operating system to take the output of the command on the left and forward them into being the input of the command on the right That being said, let's go through an example searching out two different words in a file.

grep "lives" declaration | grep frogs

Now this will, of course, return nothing because there is no line in the Declaration of independence with the words "lives" and "frogs" in them. Let's say though that you'd like to see how many times the word "lives" appears in the declaration of independence. Here's how you'd do it:

grep "lives" declaration | wc -l

That's all for today!

The Benefits of Using FPGA Design Methodologies

While FPGA design methodologies were once only used for glue logic, they have now progressed greatly. Today, a system-on-chip design can be devised on an individual device. This is because FPGA design methodologies now have increased and improved features. There are several capabilities that were not offered previously. This has increased both the resources and the performance of FPGA designs, since they now offer customizable solutions. There are several benefits this offers, making these designs widely preferred over others.

For one, FPGA designs make operations easier due to the fact that you have an unlimited access to tools. This is because the system allows you to use third-party tools that are not present in the design. This enables you to use several tools to manage tasks like time analysis and gate level simulation. The availability of a wide range of tools ensures that you do not have to work with limited resources. You can, therefore, perform all design flow tasks conveniently. Unlike traditional methods, this also ensures the smooth integration of designs.

Secondly, FPGA design methodologies offer greater safety against system errors and viruses. This is because there is a particularly large volume of point-to-point links involved. This ensures that variables are not recorded from any suspicious or untrustworthy sources. Moreover, the design does not involve the existence of a subordinate operating system. Since this is eliminated, the risks related to it are also eradicated. This means that one of the potential sources of errors is removed. Moreover, the risk of errors is generally lower in FPGA designs. This is because variables are forcibly initialized due to the simulation of this design. Also, the entire development process is created in a way that supports simultaneous tasks. This communication between processes makes errors recognized easily and, thus, generally reduces the probability of errors.

These design methodologies also offer other advantages, like a lower clock rate. However, to make sure that you benefit from these features, it is essential for you to possess thorough knowledge regarding the design. You must be thoroughly familiar with the features, development and the usage of the process. This will enable you to operate it in a way to maximize the benefits. If you are not aware of the particular techniques involved, it is recommended that you hire professional services. Hiring FPGA design services will ensure that you get the best possible results out of the process.

Desktop Application Development - What You Need to Know

Leveraging the power of the web is probably the only way which can help a business improve its prospects with time. With a series of carefully chosen desktop and mobile applications, even a small business can give some serious competition to the big and powerful enterprises in its sector. And the effects are pretty long-lasting. Once a business is able to command trust via the digital apps it deploys, it then becomes a complete cakewalk for the managers to promote the brand, and that too, without burning too much of fuel. It goes on smoothly.

Being in the digital media sector for over 15 years now, there's something I have understood. If online business solutions are being used to look after marketing and advertising needs, then these software solutions must be well designed and managed by experts. Allowing a group of amateurs work on these apps can eventually turn out to be a real bad bargain. You don't want to get into that, I can guarantee. The first thing that must be done when a businessman plans to use desktop applications is hiring the services of an entire team of experienced software developers. Though this won't be hard initially, but you must ensure that you are able to maintain cordial business relationship with the software engineers you hire for developing the apps. Quite naturally, the men who design desktop apps for you can help you maintain and upgrade them. And these men can do it better than anybody else.

Desktop application development can turn out to be a complete mess if the engineers and system analysts working on the project don't really know the actual purpose behind development and deployment of these online business tools. Sometimes, customization of desktop app helps to achieve the purpose, and that too, in a short span of time. Therefore, it's a necessity on the part of the managers and digital media marketers to discuss their needs with the desktop app developers they are looking to hire. Once these individuals are able to understand why the company is spending on desktop apps, they can always create a bunch of unique applications, which are both powerful and flexible. Furthermore, if any future changes are necessary on the same apps, then the same can be done without further explanation.

When investing on desktop apps, it's wise that a business starts investing small amounts in one, as opposed to spending a lump-sum and then realizing that it didn't go well.

Enhanced Software Quality With Agile Development Process

In 2001, the Agile Manifesto introduced the term. Agile software development process can be described as the development methodologies based on incremental and iterative development. The requirements and solution evolve through collaboration. The agile product development processes promotes delivery and development, adapting planning and inspiring flexible responses to change. The agile developmental process is a conceptual infrastructure that promotes predicted interactions throughout its lifecycle. The principle of the development states continuous attention to technical excellence and good design that facilitates agility. The dexterity remains throughout the process. To be agile requires attention to be able to produce a reliable system. The model is dependent on light requirements and yet do not undermine the necessary strong architecture that imparts the flexible characteristic to the application.

The software solution is built on a software architecture that focuses on every aspect of the development process. This includes how variant products fit together, its various components and features, its integration points, related technologies and frameworks that can be excised, extended or reused etc. The software vendors need to adapt to the underlying architecture that enables them to adapt to the changes in the marketplace. This framework has been considered to alter the traditional approach of the software development process.

Today, the agile process is practiced from the inception of the software development to its delivery. It is also proficiently used in maintenance and support, for product enhancements and releases. With the fundamental nature of product or software development changing, it is important to acknowledge the evolutionary landscape that is now more iterative and incremental. Though agile process is built on faster and lighter methods, the quality of the software remains at par to the traditional models.

This methodology has gained tremendous acceptance especially in the commercial arena because of its adaptability to use techniques that deals with the volatile requirements. One of the important aspects of the agile method is quality and developers test to ensure that the products adhere to the quality guidance.

The Quality Assurance in Agile Framework

In the traditional world, as code inspections and data modeling exists, the agile world have their set of techniques that focuses on the creation of quality software. The following are the techniques and the concepts:

· Refactoring

· Test driven development

· Tests replace traditional artifacts

· Agile model driven development

In Agile Product Development, the developers take the approach in which they write the unit test before writing domain code that will complete the unit test. This brings the overall result of the developers having a regression unit test suite at all times. The product developers refactor their database schema and source code to ensure that their work is of the highest quality. In Agile Programming, the developers work in the most collaborative, iterative and incremental platform that sometimes require the professionals to vary their approach.
